FINCA SAN JOSÉ OCAÑA
Origin: Guatemala
Region: Chimaltenango
Micro Region: San Juan Sacatepéquez
Producer: Carlos Roberto Sanchez Lazo
Altitude: 1900 meters
Milling Process: Fully-washed, sun-dried
Varietals: Mostly Bourbon, some Catuai
Tasting Notes:
Clean and sweet, with citrus-like brightness, very good body and a pleasant, fruity aftertaste.
This is one of the best Guatemalan coffees we’ve
tried in years. San José Ocaña is a fifth generation farm
located high (very high!) in the volcanic mountains of Chimaltenango.
Grown at 1900 meters, the finca’s Bourbon and Catui trees produce
small, dense beans packed with intense flavor. At a medium roast, we find
it supremely clean and sweet, with citrus-like brightness, very good body
and a pleasant, fruity aftertaste. All San José Ocaña’s
coffee is meticulously wet-milled and sun-dried on patios. It was a Cup
of Excellence winner in 2007, which has made it very hard to get. We’re
very happy to have it.
